Biography of Sanjay Karandikar (Founder and Principal of Swar-Taal Sadhana

Sanjay Karandikar is a renowned exponent of Indian Percussion Instruments - Tabla & Dholki. He started the Taalim from his father Late Shri. Madhav Karandikar. Further he continued learning from Pt. Shashikant Bellare, Pt. Vikas Datar, Pt. Ramdas Palsule,

Pt. Dattatray Bhave, Pt. Vivek Joshi.

Sanjay is Sangeet Alankar (Tabla) of Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, and has ranked 2nd in all India Ranking in the year 2003. Sanjay is also an accredited artist for All India Radio and Television. Sanjay has been awarded by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, for deputation abroad as Tabla teacher and Perfomer in 2004. He is also recipient of Senior Fellowship from Cultural Department of Government Of India.

 

Sanjay is a Founder & Director, Swar-Taal Sadhana, School of Music established in 1993. He is a renowned teacher of Tabla and Dholki and has over 1000 past and present students from India and Abroad.

Has published books and audio-visual aids on Tabla & Dholki which are extensively used by students.

Sanjay has given solo performances in India and abroad and He is an acclaimed accompanist of Tabla & Dholki s and has performed with renowned artists, to name a few Indian Classical Smt. Alka Marulkar, Smt. Manjiri Alegaonkar, Shri. Shaunak Abhisheki, Shri. Anand Bhate, Shri. Vijay Koparkar, Natya Sangeet (Musical Drama) Smt. Jaymala & Kirti Shiledar, Light Music Pt. Yashwant Deo, Shri. Shrirang Umrani and Folk Music with Shri. Charudatta Aphale (Kirtan), Late Shahir Kisanrao Hinge (Powada), Smt. Sulochana Chavan (Lavani. He has also performed for musical tracks of Regional Films, Documentaries and Television serials and participated in series "NaadYatra" as Content Expert and Performer - show casing the intricacies of different percussion instruments. The series was produced by EMRC, University of Pune and telecast on DOORDARSHAN.

He has performed with legendary vocalist Shri. Anand Bhate for his USA tour, where he also conducted Tabla workshops in various cities across USA.

Sanjay has conceptualised a thematic concert named Rhythm Collage - Taal Vadya Kacheri.
